FOXBORO STUD
MACARANA FPH

MALEGRO X RADICI X SHOGUN XX

This beautiful girl has had quite the adventure!! She has been retrained by the Stud as a future Broodmare and will be put in foal next year as a 3yo, to foal as a 4 yo.
'Rain' is the sweetest, most cuddly girl on the planet. Surprisingly, after all she has been thrugh she adores human company and would happily follow us around all day if we gave her the opportunity. We envisage that her foals will be taught, by her, to be the same.
As a very young foal, Rain was playing and somehow managed to partially dislocate her off-fore knee and ripped the collateral ligament at the side of it.
Because of this, she ws admitted to Leahurst to be operated on.
At just 8 days old, she underwent surgery to plate her knee and repair the ligament. She sailed through this and became the darling of the Hospital.
On the day she was due to come home, the stitches started to break down and she through up a really nasty infection. The Vets tried 2 types of antibiotics on her but she only got worse. She underwent another General Anesthetic to clean the wound.
They said that they had one more Antibiotic to try along with twice daily wound flushes. If that didn't work, then she would need to be PTS. Her life hung in the balance.

Over the next 10 days Rain turned the corner, and at almost a month old, she finally came home.
She was under treatment for almost 4 months, before returning to the Hospital to have the plate taken out. Thankfully, she sailed through with no further infections and after a few days, came home for further box rest.
Finally, all the bandages came off, she was scanned and the Vet said that the knee was perfect and the ligament had healed. He gave her the OK to be a future competition horse, but we had already decided to keep her as we had fallen deeply in love with her and we wouldn't want anyone to have her and then have a problem with her.
So, this beautiful, loving mare, who is a complete pest sometimes, (because all she wants to do is follow you around the yard and field for scratches, kisses and hugs), will become one of our broodmares. She is beautifully bred, (pedigree below), and she will be AI'd next year as a 3yo, to foal down as a 4yo.
We are already very excited about her future.
